Goals / Remit
Killybegs Fishermen's Organisation Ltd. (KFO) is a Producer Organisation (PO) incorporated under Irish and European law. It has circa thirty six members (licenced fishing vessels) ranging from the inshore sector (<12 metre) to offshore specialised RSW (refrigerated seawater) pelagic over 70 metres and including a polyvalent sector which targets whitefish, pelagic and shellfish species on a seasonal basis. The KFO is based in Killybegs, Ireland's largest fishing port which accounts for most fish landings by weight and value.
KFO is governed by a Board drawn from members and re-elected annually. It is managed by a Chief Executive Officer who is instructed by the Board on matters of interest such as markets, technical developments, EU and national regulations, fishing opportunities and developments outside the fishing industry but which may directly or indirectly affect their business.
The goals of the KFO are to ensure the members interests are represented within the boundaries of regulations, markets and technical developments.Main EU files targeted
