    - AEBR represents the interest of European border and cross-border regions towards EU institutions, national governments and other entities.
    - Identifies their problems, opportunities, tasks and relevant projects.
    - Initiates, supports and coordinates their cooperation in the whole continent.
    - Promotes the exchange of experiences and information to identify and coordinate common interests on the basis of a diversity of problems and opportunities, proposes solutions and works to implement them.
    - Promotes Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) structures, projects and programmes.

    This information corresponds to AEBR Annual Account 2019 approved at AEBR General Assembly 2020, organized online from Eupen on 5 November 2020. A specific e-mail voting was called prior to the meeting, but it did not reach enough quorum. Then, online voting through Polyas was organized during the General Assembly, with 160 votes in favour out of 178 eligible member votes present.

    Most of our budget corresponds to the EU grants to implement Interreg Volunteer Youth and b-solutions, with 95% EU financing and 5% AEBR co-financing.

    Main projects currently implemented:
    - IVY (Interreg Volunteer Youth), deploying young volunteers in Interreg projects, including ENI-CBC and IPA-CBC; more than 600 volunteers deployed to date (August 2021), March 2017 - December 2021 (conversations to extend this project have started)
    - b-solutions: identifying CB legal and administrative obstacles and proposing possible solutions, two calls for proposals in 2018 and 2019 have produced the study of 43 cases, published in a first Compendium available in: https://www.b-solutionsproject.com/; a 3rd and 4th calls followed in 2020 and 2021, with 47 new selected cases (they will be the basis of a 2nd Compendium at the end of 2021), and a call for expressions of interest to identify additional experts still open, December 2017 - December 2021 (conversations to extend this project have started)
    - several in the Balkans with young people;
    - various with sub-national authorities in Latin American CB areas, namely EC-CO, PE-EC, BO-PE, CO-PE-BR, and the borders of MX with GT and with the US; these are mainly implemented through direct contracts with the local authorities, but also in the framework of wider EU projects (EUROsociAL, INNOVACT, etc.);
    - exploration activities in Jerusalem, West Africa, and North-West Asia

    Other activities

    We have taken part in the Commission's Cross-Border Review, and many related actions as a result of its 2017 Communication, including the implementation of the "b-solutions" project.
