    Goals / Remit

    The ECCSL is a Chamber of Commerce. Its primary objective is to stimulate, strengthen and promote economic and business relations between Sri Lanka and the countries comprising geographical Europe. ECCSL broadly seeks to provide, inter-alia, efficient and professional information, and advisory, consultative, promotional and representative linkages between Sri Lankan and European business entities.

    Main EU files targeted

    The main EU legislative proposals which interest the ECCSL are CBAM, CSDDD, Critical Minerals, Deforestation initiatives, Textile Labelling Regulations. Also, any amendments to GDPR.

    The ECCSL has organised and held awareness programs in support of the regrant of GSP+. The ECCSL's EU-Sri Lanka Investor Dialog initiative enabled EU investors and businesses to have a platform at which issues can be raised. The ECCSL participated in the revived Dialogue which took place at the end of January 2022. The ECCSL has an advocacy program which includes publication of at least one position paper, where possible, each year on issues which are faced by EU businesses/investors. Three position papers have been developed in the last several years. The ECCSL has also engaged in dialogue with the EU Delegation about the MAFF. In the past the ECCSL has held an informational seminar on GDPR. Some of the Market Access Teams of ECCSL organise webinars. In 2022, the ECCSL working on a project funded by GIZ and assisted the Netherlands Embassy with the organisation of a series of webinars. The ECCSL is currently working on a segment of the SCOPE project of GIZ in Sri Lanka. ECCSL is working on reviving the EU Sri Lanka Investor Dialogue and on a series of quarterly roundtables to generate awareness about new European Commission initiatives.
