    1. Provide political representation to farmers and growers in England and Wales through effective
lobbying at regional, national and European levels
    2. Inform its members about important political, commercial or legislative changes that may impact
on their businesses in order to allow them to make informed decisions
    3. Provide special advisory services to its members on legal and technical matters affecting British
    agriculture
    4. Offer wider services to its members for example, discounted rates of insurance, private medical
    care etc

about the importance and value of British agriculture
The NFU works very closely with sister organisations in Scotland (NFU Scotland) and Northern
Ireland (Ulster Farmers Union), which have similar aims and objectives in their given regions.
The organisations jointly support a representative office in Brussels, the British Agriculture Bureau.
This office provides the primary interface with the European Institutions and its job is to gather
intelligence on EU affairs, engage in and support lobbying efforts with the European Institutions and
build networks with other stakeholder organisations in Brussels

It is also a member of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), a representative body for British
    business associations.

Lobbying costs for closed financial year

    650,000€

    Other financial info

The estimate of costs is based on the costs of operating the British Agriculture Bureau, the NFU's
representative office in Brussels. It is therefore a very crude approximation of the costs of direct
lobbying. To undertake a precise estimate would be impossible given the political nature of the
organisations activities domestically. Attention should also be drawn to the contribution that the
NFU also makes on behalf of the UK farming unions to COPA/COGECA which represents and
additional approximately 370,000 euro although only a fraction of this subscription could be allocated
    to direct lobbying.
