Goals / Remit
The International Rescue Committee Europe is part of the IRC global network, which has its headquarters in New York and London. The IRC is on the ground in more than 40 countries, providing emergency relief, relocating refugees and rebuilding lives in the wake of disaster. Through 22 regional offices in cities across the United States, the IRC also helps refugees resettle in the US and become self-sufficient.
Main EU files targeted
The IRC has been engaging in advocacy and policy activities towards the EU Institutions, with particular focus on the EU Commission. DG ECHO and DEVCO are IRC's key targets for policy activities especialy in the following areas:
- European refugee crisis
- Women/girls protection and empowerment (e.g. ECHO policy on "Gender in Humanitarian Aid: Different Needs, Adapted Assistance" and the EU Gender Action Plan 2016-2020);
- Urban refugees and protracted displacement situations;
- Context-specific policies and programmes;
- EU humanitarian funding.
