    Goals / Remit

World Cancer Research Fund International is a leading authority on the links between diet, nutrition, weight, physical activity, and cancer. As a not-for-profit association, we unite a network of cancer prevention charities. Our mission is to reduce preventable cancers by advancing scientific research and providing evidence-based recommendations. We fund studies from leading institutions to understand how diet, physical activity and alcohol affect cancer risk, survival, and outcomes, addressing gaps in knowledge and are in official relations with the World Health Organization. Our Cancer Prevention Recommendations offer practical guidance to help individuals lower their cancer risk. We are trusted advisors to governments and global organizations and use our expertise to influence public health policies, aiming for a world where no one develops a preventable cancer.

The only EU grant we have received is related to a Horizon 2020 funded project CO-CREATE (Grant Agreement No 774210) in which we are part of a consortium of organisations. This project has now ended.

    Communication activities

WCRFI was part of an Horizon 2020 funded project called CO-CREATE on preventing adolescent obesity through nutrition and physical activity policy actions. We undertook events, published peer reviewed and other papers on this project, developed policy outputs including a policy index and policy briefs. We also undertook communication activities to promote and disseminate CO-CREATE outputs through channels including our e-newsletter, conference presentations and social media posts. We also used the EU Health Policy Portal to promote CO-CREATE events and outputs. The CO-CREATE formally ended in May 2023, but we are still promoting the outputs.

WCRFI has been part of an informal coalition of health sector NGOs seeking action on harmful food marketing to children at EU level. The coalition remains in existence, but has not been very active in 2023 and 2024 (no external activities).
