    Goals / Remit

the3million is the largest grassroots organisation for EU citizens in the UK, formed after the 2016 referendum to protect the rights of people who have made the UK their home.

We are an inclusive and non-partisan organisation for and of immigrants. Instead of letting others represent us, we speak on our own behalf, representing the interests of all EU citizens, irrespective of ability, ethnicity, gender, nationality, race, religion or sexual orientation. Our values are based on human rights, anti-racism, liberal democracy and respect for the rules of law.

We have established ourselves as the main organisation representing the interest of EU citizens in the UK, with access to UK and EU institutions. We are viewed as a trusted advisor by NGOs and other stakeholders and are active members of several alliances and networks.

    Main EU files targeted

Our main work with the EU is influencing the EU Commission to ensure the sound implementation of “The EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement” (entered into force on 1 February 2020).

We regularly meet with the EU Commission and share our knowledge from research into EU citizens’ issues in the UK, to inform and influence the topics, issues and proposed solutions discussed at the UK-EU Specialised Committee on Citizens’ Rights.

For example, the EU Commission and the3million intervened in a Judicial Review brought by the Independent Monitoring Authority against the UK's Secretary of State for the Home Department, relating to the lawfulness of the UK's EU Settlement Scheme. The case and judgment have impact on EU Member States implementation of the same Withdrawal Agreement. The legal point on which the case turned has been highlighted by the3million over many such meetings.

The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.

1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
