    Goals / Remit

HGI-CGS is public research Institute under the Ministry of Science, Education, and Sports.
    THE MAIN FIELDS OF ACTIVITY:
    ● Geological and geochemical mapping,
    ● Biostratigraphy, palaeontology, sedimentology, petrography, mineralogy, geochemistry, tectonics and geomorphological investigations,
    ● Basic and applied studies in geological engineering and geohazarsd,
    ● Preparation of geological, geochemical, hydrogeological, engineering geological maps and maps of mineral resources potential and geothermal characteristics of the Croatian territory,
    ● Studies related with the public water supply (groundwater resources quantity, quality, management…, soil and water conservation, traffic infrastructure development and urban planning, large scale engineering geological studies,
    ● Researches connected with geothermal energy and hydrothermal water bodies,
    ● Exploration and genesis of mineral resources, mineral resources management planning and environmental protection,
    ● Palaoenvironmental investigations of Holocene continental, marine and lacustrine sediments: multiproxy studies,
    ● Expert services and impartial advice in all areas of geoscience and geological engineering,
    ● Various in situ hydrogeological and hydrochemical measurements, mostly continuous (loggers) (water level, discharge, electro-conductivity, etc.)
    ● Various laboratory-based researches:
X-ray diffraction, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry, clay mineralogy, heavy media separation of minerals and analysis, granulometric composition; thin sections preparation of standard, polished, impregnated sections and grain mounts; biostratigraphy preparation facilities for palynology and micropalaeontology; engineering geological (geotechnical) properties providing a comprehensive, integrated rock and soil testing facility capable of both: standard and specialised tests; hydrochemical analyses: physical, physicochemical and chemical parameters determination…
    ● Collecting, compilation, interpretation, archiving and distribution of geological data about Croatian territory through development of GIS tools and infrastructure development,
We are dealing with scientific research and we give services to external clients from a wide range of industrial and educational establishments including: hydrocarbon exploration companies, universities and other higher education establishments - especially those researching and teaching earth science subjects and archaeology; mineral exploration and extraction industries, building stone/heritage conservationists, civil engineering industry, local and regional authorities, water supply companies. HGI-CGS has big experience in karst related research.
