    Goals / Remit

Plataforma per la Llengua is a Barcelona-based advocacy group that defends the rights of Catalan speakers. With more than 23,000 members, we are currently the largest pro-language-rights civil society organization in Europe. We have been working to promote and defend the Catalan language and the linguistic rights of the Catalan-speaking communities since 1993. We also work diligently to create a more cohesive and open Europe that is sensitive to cultural and linguistic diversity.

    Main EU files targeted

Our main goal is the recognition of Catalan as an official language of the European Union.

Given that official status can only be achieved through a petition by an EU Member State, in the short term we work to improve the legal status of the Catalan language within the current legal framework of the EU.

We oversee and intervene in all the EU legislative procedures that could affect the legal status of Catalan within the Spanish State and we promote the image of the Catalan language in Europe.
