    Goals / Remit

    The Irish South & East Fish Producers Organisation represent fishermen at EU and National Level. We keep our members informed of updated legislation and policy changes.
    Our goals are to help members get better value for their catches.
    To manage species quota allocations in a sustainable manner and adjust to market demand.

    Main EU files targeted

    • The ISEFPO is a member of the Executive Committee of the North Western Waters Advisory Council (NWWAC), we are members of all four working groups and many of the focus groups and provide industry expertise to these groups.

    • The ISEFPO holds the Chair of Working Group 1 (Irish Sea) and the Skates and Rays Focus Group.

    • The ISEFPO also participates in Fisheries Improvement Meetings (FIP’s) and Technical Measures Focus Group (NWWAC) where we lend expertise and promote new improved technical measures. We advise our members on the measures that are agreed at these meetings. Our members participate in FIP’s which improves members knowledge and encourages sustainable fisheries.

    • The ISEFPO participates on the Whelk Focus group, the BSA Crab Effort Meetings and other shellfish meetings at a National and European Level.

    • In recent years there has been a huge increase in the activity in the area of Off Shore Renewable Energy (ORE), with proposals being put forward for multiple Wind Farms in traditional fishing areas. The ISEFPO ORE/Seafood Review Group was set up to develop guidelines on interactions between the ORE Industry and the Fishing Industry, the ISEFPO has fully participated in this group and is a leading member of three subgroups. This group comprises of members from the seafood industry, Department of Marine, Department of Housing, Dept of Environment and the ORE industry.

    • We also are actively involved with discussions with the Department of Marine and Housing and NGO’s around the establishment of Marine Protected Areas to ensure that a sustainable fisheries and income can be maintained for our members in conjunction with these areas.


    • The ISEFPO are a member of the European group looking at the Environmental impact of bottom trawling.

    • We also participate fully in all Department of Marine Advisory and Information forums along with other groups which we considered engagement with would be of benefit to our members e.g. Science Research Partnership (IFSRP), Marine Institute meetings, Bord iascaigh Mhara (B.I.M.) workshops and training, Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) meetings, Brexit Information meetings, All Ireland Civic Dialogue Forum, Plastics and fishing for litter Workshops, Brainstorming meetings, Harbour User’s Meetings, Onboard Fishery Observer Programme, Atypical Workers Oversight Committee, Sumaris Project, Dept. Sustainability Impact Assessment Group, SFPA Consultative Committee and Marine Survey Office Information meetings.
