    Goals / Remit

    AGCS Gas Clearing and Settlement AG is the Austrian gas balance group coordinator / clearing agent.
    AGCS has been operating the Biomethane Registry Austria since 2012, to fulfil its task requested by the Austrian Renewable Electricity Act (ÖSG, Ökostromgesetz 2012). AGCS issues biomethane certificates as basis for the FiT for renewable electricity from biomethane. AGCS has a cooperatione with the Austrian Biofuels Registry (elNa, Umweltbundesamt GmbH) and the German Biogas Registy (operated by dena, German Energy Agency).
    AGCS is actively engaged in diverse initiatives (ERGaR aisbl - European Renewable Gas Registry and H2020 R&D project REGATRACE) to develop a suitable documentation system for energy from renewable gases injected into and withdrawn from the interconnected, European gas grid.

    AGCS is member of ERGaR aisbl, the European Renewable Gas Registry (www.ergar.org). It is an international non-profit, non-governmental organisation (BE law) established in September 2016.
    AGCS is one of the founding members of ERGaR and holds a seat on the Executive Board of ERGaR. The Executive Board of ERGaR is voted by its members every three years. ERGaR currently (Feb 2021) has 28 members from 15 European countries: Established biomethane / renewable gas registries, appointed issuing bodies, Gas DSOs & TSOs, Biogas associations, Traders, Other major stakeholders of the European biomethane market.

    ERGaR's goal is to establish an independent, transparent and trustworthy documentation scheme for transferring of biomethane (biogas upgraded to natural gas quality) and other renewable gases distributed along the European gas network via a book&claim or a mass balancing.
