Goals / Remit
FIDE is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the participation of everyday citizens in policy-making. Based on the extensive experience of its members, FIDE sees deliberative democratic methods and the use of civic lotteries as the optimal way to achieve this goal and strengthen representative democracy.
Based on project experience FIDE will work with other major actors in this field to define the quality standards for deliberative processes and help governments to design processes that adhere to them.
The organization seeks to provide government and non-governmental actors at all levels with the trusted first point of advice to get informed, free of charges beyond cost-recovery. FIDE will act as a federation of and a reference hub for the existing actors in this field and their work. It also acts as a central node in Europe for research and information on deliberative democratic practices.Main EU files targeted

Communication activities
Advice & Observation: FIDE will advise governmental and non-governmental actors on design-principles and best practices related to citizens’ participation, deliberative democracy and civic lottery. It will monitor deliberative processes that are organized at the EU, national or regional level and publish independent evaluation reports on them.
Advocacy & Communication: FIDE will perform advocacy and communicate through different channels to increase awareness and support for these methods among policy-makers and influencers and the public at large. One of the main ways to achieve this will be to increase the visibility of the existing actors and their work in this field at all levels of government. FIDE will also organize public events to bring the organizations in this field together with policy-makers and the larger public.
Research & Documentation: FIDE will curate the best available existing research and act as a documentation center for all aspects of deliberative democratic processes and civic lotteries. It will also perform its own research and publish research papers, policy briefs and other publications to inform elected representatives, government officials and the public on the results. To this end, it can cooperate with academic institutions or other organizations for specific research projects and can actively seek exterior funding for them.Other activities
