Goals / Remit
The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) is an international organization based in Munich, Germany, that represents the collective interest of the Uyghur people both in East Turkistan (also known as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Peoples Republic of China ‘PRC’) and abroad. The main objective of WUC is to highlight the severe human rights atrocities being committed against the Uyghur people, and promote democracy and freedom for the Uyghur people.
Main EU files targeted
The WUC performs some lobbying activities in relation to the EU and European Parliament. In particular, the WUC meets with MEPs to update them on the deteriorating situation in the Uyghur Autonomous Region/East Turkistan and push for European action to alleviate their situation. The WUC is focused on EU foreign policy, particularly its relations with China. We advocate for human rights to be fully integrated in the EU's relations with China and for the Uyghur issue to be raised.

Communication activities
The World Uyghur Congress works with the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation to implement its advocacy strategy in the institutions of the European Union. In 2022, a Uyghur friendship group was re-established in the European Parliament. With the group as a network for action, we intend to organise a number of conferences on specific human rights violations against Uyghurs and try to raise greater awareness of the situation of the Uyghur people.

The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.
1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
