TheCityUK is the industry-led body representing UK-based financial and related professional services.
Our purpose is to champion and support the success of the UK-based financial and related professional services ecosystem, and thereby our members.

Our members comprise a range of financial institutions, professional services providers and market infrastructure companies with operations in the UK, including many institutions headquartered within the European Union. Strengthening the EU-UK business relationship and addressing joint challenges in partnership are top priorities for us and our members.

The main issues for TheCityUK include the various activities our members undertake that are regulated by the EU Institutions or otherwise impacted by EU legislative and regulatory measures. This includes issues such as clearing and settlement, capital requirements, accounting standards, tax rules, retail banking activities such as consumer credit, bank accounts, financial inclusion and education, as well as collective redress, and rules on supervision of credit institutions - cross-border and national. TheCityUK also advocates for UK and EU institutions to exchange information, and compare approaches to future initiatives using all available means, including via the Joint EU-UK Financial Regulatory Forum.

No lobbyists with EP accreditations

We have one dedicated staff member leading on Europe related policy, public affairs and Engagement with one further staff member working on Europe matters most of the time. A further six staff members input into the work but on a part time basis as it forms part of their wider other duties. We estimate that the work we undertake is the equivalent to around three full time members of staff.

Trade and business associations
