    Goals / Remit

The Baltic exchange is a membership organisation providing services to the global bulk shipping marketplace. We provide a series of daily benchmark rates reflecting the principal dry bulk and tanker shipping routes. These rates are used in the settlement of a range of physical and derivative contracts. We also provide daily forward curve information which is used in mark to market and CCP margining activity. We operate a code of conduct setting out ethical behaviour in the shipping market and have the ability to apply sanctionis. We also represent our members to governments worldwide and to supra-government organisations.
