Goals / Remit
The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (founded in 1808) is an advisory body to the Dutch Government. The Academy derives its authority from the quality of its members, who represent the full spectrum of scientific and scholarly endeavour and are selected on the basis of their achievements. It is also responsible for fifteen internationally renowned institutes whose research and collections put them in the vanguard of Dutch science and scholarship. As the forum, conscience, and voice of the arts and sciences in the Netherlands, the Academy promotes quality in science and scholarship and strives to ensure that Dutch scholars and scientists contribute to cultural, social and economic progress. As a research organisation, the Academy is responsible for a group of outstanding national research institutes. It promotes innovation and knowledge valorisation within these institutes and encourages them to cooperate with one another and with university research groups.
Main EU files targeted
The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences is a member of ALLEA, EASAC, and FEAM, four of the five umbrella organisations that form the SAPEA consortium (Scientific Advice for Policy by European Academies), which is part of the Scientific Advice Mechanism of the European Commission. It is also a member of Neth-ER, the Brussels-based network of The Netherlands' knowledge organisations. Neth-ER is listed in the transparency register of the European Union. Through Neth-ER, KNAW closely follows the framework program for research and innovation.

The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.
1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
