    A REN tem como objetivo garantir o fornecimento ininterrupto de eletricidade e de gás natural, ao menor custo, satisfazendo critérios de qualidade e segurança, mantendo o equilíbrio entre a oferta e a procura em tempo real, assegurando os interesses legítimos dos intervenientes no mercado e conjugando missões de operador do sistema e de operador das redes que lhe estão cometidas (transporte de eletricidade, transporte de gás natural e distribuição de gás natural), assim como a receção, armazenamento e regaseificação de gás natural liquefeito e o armazenamento subterrâneo de gás natural.
