Goals / Remit
Plataforma per la Llengua is a Barcelona-based advocacy group that defends the rights of Catalan speakers. With more than 26,000 members, we are currently the largest pro-language-rights civil society organization in Europe. We have been working to promote and defend the Catalan language and the linguistic rights of the Catalan-speaking communities since 1993. We also work diligently to create a more cohesive and open Europe that is sensitive to cultural and linguistic diversity.
Main EU files targeted
Our main goal is the recognition of Catalan as an official language of the European Union.
Given that official status can only be achieved through a petition by an EU Member State, in the short term we work to improve the legal status of the Catalan language within the current legal framework of the EU.
We oversee and intervene in all the EU legislative procedures that could affect the legal status of Catalan within the Spanish State and we promote the image of the Catalan language in Europe.Address

Communication activities
We conducted a campaign titled "SAY YES," which focused on highlighting the importance of recognizing Catalan as an official EU language. The campaign emphasized that this recognition is not only crucial for the Catalan-speaking community but also for strengthening core European values such as cultural diversity, inclusivity, and linguistic rights. Our outreach efforts aimed to engage EU institutions by underlining how embracing linguistic diversity reinforces the EU's commitment to unity and respect for its various cultural identities.
Other activities
We are members of three European networks: the European Language Equality Network (ELEN), the Network for the Promotion of Linguistic Diversity (NPLD) and the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN).

The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.
1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
