    METRO AG is a leading international player in wholesale and food service distribution. With its sales lines METRO Cash & Carry as well as its other associated companies, METRO AG is present in over 30 countries and employs more than 91,000 people around the world. In 2022/23, METRO AG achieved sales of around €30.5 billion (Adjusted EBITDA €1.1 billion). The company provides solutions to meet the regional and international needs of its customers, mainly independent businesses in the hospitality sector and small traders. In line with METRO AG’s self-image as a company which acts in a responsible manner, it is a natural step for the group to involve itself in political and social debates and take a clear stand on various issues.     The below-mentioned issues are followed in order to contribute to the single market with e-commerce and omni-channel retail and bringing a high level of food safety as well as respecting sustainabilty in retail. Contribution to EU discussions is given mainly via associations, as well as via direct input to the work of the European Parliament's Committees, Commission's consultations, etc.

    METRO AG has one permanent position in its Brussels office. Moreover, within the Corporate Public Policy Department, 3 colleagues are suporting EU concrete dossiers or activities. Several experts from different teams such as Legal & Competition, Sustainability and Quality Assurance support the EU public policy team in its daily activities, e.g. by providing expert input into position papers, consultation or activities within the framework of associations.
