Goals / Remit
Light for the World is a global disability and development organisation whose vision is an inclusive society where no one is left behind.
We enable crucial eye health services and help empower persons with disabilities in multiple low-income countries.
We focus our work in nine countries: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, South Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
We also work with partners to implement eye health, disability and inclusion programmes in other countries across Africa. Light for the World's activities are dedicated to promoting eye health and the inclusion of persons with disabilities in education and employment, championing human rights.Main EU files targeted
As the European Union (EU) and all EU Member States are States Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), Light for the World advocates for international partnerships and development cooperation and humanitarian action policies, funding and programmes to be inclusive of, and accessible to, all persons with disabilities in line with the CRPD.
This includes in relation to:
Monitoring of the EU's implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), with a specific focus on disability right and inclusive in EU external action policies, funding and programmes.
EU Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030, especially Section 6 on Promoting the rights of persons with disabilities globally.
EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), especially the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI) - Global Europe Instrument 2021-2027.
EU Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy 2020-2024.
EU Action Plan on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in External Action 2021-2025 (GAP III).
EU Youth Action Plan in EU external action 2022-2027.
EU-Africa Strategy.
EU Global Health Strategy.
