ICANN is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet's unique identifiers. Through its coordination role of the Internet's naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet.
To reach another person on the Internet you have to type an address into your computer -- a name or a number. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN coordinates these unique identifiers across the world. Without that coordination, we wouldn't have one global Internet.

We employ open and transparent policy development mechanisms that promote well-informed decisions based on expert advice, and in collaboration with entities most affected by policy development. ICANN's various committees, known as Supporting Organisations and Advisory Committees, meet regularly online. ICANN organizes 3 public meetings per year, open to all stakeholders. The meetings rotate across the 5 global regions. The last European region meeting took place in Barcelona in October 2018.

1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice.
