Goals / Remit
IPA Europe, the European voice for probiotics, advocates for a well-defined status for probiotics in Europe that aims to properly inform the consumer and thus increase awareness of the benefits of probiotics.
IPA Europe is a non-profit international association, based in Brussels, that represents the interests of the European Probiotic Industry in all discussions with the European Institutions, the European Food and Safety Authority (EFSA), international institutions and national authorities, aiming to consolidate the probiotic category and boost the EU competitiveness.
IPA Europe is engaged in establishing a clear framework for the use of the term probiotics, to better address the challenges the probiotic sector is facing and contribute actively to the international debate in the Codex Alimentarius.Main EU files targeted
IPA Europe is active in the development of a clear legal framework acrosss the EU harminizing the use of the term probiotic in food, in:
- Nutrition and Health Claim Regulation
- Food information to the Consumer Regulation,
- Development of a Codex standard
- Farm to Fork strategy
