    Goals / Remit

iMinds is an independent research institute founded by the Flemish government to stimulate ICT innovation. Over the last 10 years, iMinds became Flanders' digital research & entrepreneurship hub. It combines the strength of its researchers at 5 Flemish universities to conduct strategic and applied research in several areas such as ICT, Media and Health.

Together with its research partner, companies, governments and non-profit organizations, iMinds translates digital know-how into concrete products and services. In addition, iMinds supports researchers, entrepreneurs and start-ups in the succesful market introduction of their ideas.

The iMinds team offers companies and organizations active support in research and development. It brings together companies, authorities, and non-profit organizations to join forces in research projects. Both technical and non-technical issues are addressed within each of these projects.

iMinds has developed a vertical market approach that tunes services to the needs of specific markets that are highly relevant to Flanders and will benefit greatly from digital innovations - including manufacturing, media and entertainment, health, Smart Cities, the public sector, education and financial services.

By focusing on High-Impact Initiatives (HI²s) - clustered in Eveything Connected, Data Science and Distributed Trust - iMinds focuses on long-term research and innovation programs with sufficient critical mass to have a major socio-economic impact on Flanders. These HI²s will cluster top expertise across Flemish universities and bridge the gap between research, innovation and industry.

iMinds unites over a 1000 researchers from 5 universities specialized in one or more of the basic competencies of iMinds. The composition of the research groups is flexible and aligned to the evolving needs of companies and organizations.
