    H2 Green Steel (H2GS AB) was founded in 2020. The founder and largest shareholder is Vargas, which is also co-founder and one of the largest shareholders in Northvolt.

    H2 Green Steel is on a mission, we decarbonise hard-to-abate industries using hydrogen produced by renewable electricity. We start by initiating the global steel industry’s greatest ever technological shift. H2 Green Steel are committed to accelerating change by eliminating almost all CO₂ emissions from the steel production process. Our production is planned for to start in 2025 or 2026.

    Our first aim is to build a large-scale hydrogen based green steel production facility located in Boden in northern Sweden. H2 Green Steel is also planning a second facility located in the Iberian Peninsula. Both facilities will enable a reduction of CO2 emissions by at least 95 percent compared to the current steel production route in EU
