    Goals / Remit

A Fertő Tó Barátai mozgalom indulásakor már 3 éve megfogalmaztuk: emberközpontú, természetbarát, arányos mértékű fejlesztést szeretnénk látni a Fertő tó magyarországi oldalán!

    Main EU files targeted

Our organisation wants to contribute to the monitoring of the implementation and potential future updates of EU policies linked to the environment. We are particularly interested in the following legislative tools:
    EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030
    EU Forest Strategy
    EU Green Deal
EU Climate Package (including the Renewable Energy Directive with particular attention to the use of biomass as renewable energy source)
    Habitats Directive
    Birds Directive
    Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive
    Water Framework Direction
We have already been in contact with the European Commission DG Environment due to an official complaint submitted by one of our members (reference number CHAP(2020)00230). This complaint resulted in starting an EU Pilot investigation in relation to the potential destruction of a freshwater habitat, namely the Fertö Natura 2000 site. This complaint is based on the breach of the Habitat and the EIA directives.
We have already started an online petition through the European Parliament PETI committee (reference number 0551/2021). Our representative presented the case to the PETI committee through its hybrid meeting on 10 January.
We were also sending various written submissions to EU Commissioners in relation to the implementation of the Resilience and Recovery Fund with special attention on its impact on biodiversity and climate.
There was also a submission by our member to the Committee of Region NAT committee in relation to its report about the EU Forest Strategy
As we continue liaising with various EU institutions we want to increase our transparency hence our submission within this register.

    Communication activities

Our association is going to monitor, the implementation of the EU policies of our interest (see above) including the monitoring of funding from both national and EU resources (RRF, LIFE+, ERDF). There will be various ways of us communicating with EU institutions, but we can currently foresee the followings:
    - personal meetings and written submissions to the European Commission DGs, especially to DG Environment, linked to the implementation of the directives (sharing also best practices and lessons learned). This will include providing additional information about our ongoing complaint about the Fertö lake (CHAP(2020)00230)
    - personal meetings (both physical and online) and written submission to the European Parliaments various committees (focus on ENVI, AGRI and PETI) and members. This will include the ongoing dialogue with the PETI Committee and its members about the 0550/2021 petition.
    - personal meetings and written submission to the Committee of Region about the EU policies of our concern. The focus is likely the NAT Committee
    - personal meetings and written submissions to other EU institutions including the Joint Research Centre and the European Environmental Agency
    - our association is also interested to organise its own events (conferences and exhibitions) in Brussels in order to contribute to informed decision making processes about EU policies of our interest
    - our association would also like to attend conferences, events organised by others in order to support the flow of information between Members States and EU institutions
    - finally we will be participating in online and physical consultation processes whenever relevant legislations are to be updated
