    Goals / Remit

The European Timber Trade Federation (ETTF) represents the timber importers, distributors, traders and non-importing trader interest’s across Europe and operates on a united base, representing and lobbying on behalf of the trade to national level and EU-authorities as well as key decision makers. At present ETTF has 15 member federations. ETTF also engages with environmental and other NGOs and provides a discussion and networking forum for the EU timber trade on key issues, from legislation and the environment, to sustainable timber promotion and best practice.

    Main EU files targeted

ETTF fully supports EU initiatives such as FLEGT (EU Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade Action Plan) and the EU Timber Regulation (Reg. EU 995/2010), that aim to improve forest governance in third countries and to prevent wood and wood-based products that derive from illegally logged forests to enter the European market.

European Timber Regulation (EUTR). This Regulation (Regulation (EU) No 995/2010) regulates the first placing on the market (by timber harvesting or import) of timber and timber products on the EU internal market and prohibits the placing on the market of illegally harvested timber.

ETTF fully supports the role of EU Trade Agreements as a leverage to promote sustainable forest management through a partnership approach and halt deforestation worldwide. Sustainable development chapters of FTAs are of paramount importance and their implementation and enforcement should be duly monitored by the EU.

The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.

1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
