    Goals / Remit

The European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) brings together fact-checkers, media literacy experts, and academic researchers to understand and analyse disinformation, in collaboration with media organisations, online platforms and media literacy practitioners.
EDMO deploys a platform to support the work of a multidisciplinary community with expertise in the field of online disinformation. EDMO contributes to a deeper understanding of disinformation relevant actors, vectors, tools, methods, dissemination dynamics, targets, and impact on society.

    Main EU files targeted

EDMO’s focus is tackling disinformation. In this regard, the main legislative proposals or policies are the Digital Services Act (adopted- delegated acts are work in progress); the Defence of Democracy Package (as far as we know currently in drafting phase); the General Data Protection Regulation when it comes to access to data for research purposes (adopted, assessment done after two years of activities); The Strengthened Code of Practice on Disinformation, which is a self-regulatory tool nudged by the European Commission, and which was signed in June 2022.; Proposal for a Regulation for a European Media Freedom Act (ongoing legislative process). Finally, considering the impact that AI has in disinformation, also the AI act may have an impact on the debate.

The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.

1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
