    Goals / Remit

    The mission of EPA is to empower people by supporting community-based sustainable development initiatives within Central European countries and to actively participate in policy making for the benefit of civil society on European and global level.
    The goal of the Association is to advocate for, support and organize international cooperation of the member organizations, which aim at strengthening the contribution of civil society, in particular environmental NGOs, to sustainable development in Europe and globally.

    Main EU files targeted

    Main EU wide initiatives followed by our organization are 7. Environmental Action Programme, Biodiversity strategy, Climate and Energy Framework, Renewable energy directive, so mainly the ENVI and CLIMA agenda and some pieces related to renewables. Part of our attention we also focus on Civil Rights and Justice issues. We focus on DG ENV, DG CLIMA and also EP ENVI committee.

    We have one person in our European office responsible directly for the communication with EU institutions and three additional people working from our local office directly on EU policies contributions. There are plenty of people working indirectly on EU issues while participating in the EU funded projects.

    Communication activities

    We currently manage one LIFE project on climate adaptations on central European cities, helping to introduce green infrastructure measures, we work on anti-nuclear programme of Austrian government, we organize the European Tree of the Year contest in 15 European countries and we manage also one EEA regional project on Shrinking civil space. We are also participating in consultations on Forestry strategy and roadmap to plant the 3 bn trees in Europe by 2030.
