    Goals / Remit

Journalismfund.eu vzw (formerly known as Fonds Pascal Decroos voor Bijzondere Journalistiek vzw) is an independent non‐profit organisation established with the purpose of promoting quality cross-border and in-depth journalism in Europe.

    Why we exist

Globalisation has had an enormous impact on the way we live. Business and trade take place across borders, political decisions are made on international level, criminal networks operate in various countries. Society is more international and more complex than ever before.

At the same time news media, faced with increasing financial pressure, seem to be moving in the opposite direction. More news items have to be produced, there is little time for research and international news is being cut back on. Cross-border investigative journalism fits into no traditional business model whatsoever. As a result, journalists who want to look into matters thoroughly or focus on topics that exceed national borders don't get the chance to do so.

    What we do

Journalismfund.eu supports journalists who have good ideas for quality in-depth and cross-border research. We focus on two ways of doing so, through our projects. The first is by giving working grants to journalists that enable them to work on a project over a longer period of time. The second is by providing networking opportunities for the investigative journalism community to share ideas and methods.

We have a particular focus on Europe and hope to add to the creation of a European public sphere.
