    Goals / Remit

    Background
The International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists (IAJLJ) was founded in 1969 as a non-profit organization, to promote and protect the essential interests of the Jewish people and defend human rights in general. It works to combat racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, Holocaust denial, unjust attacks against the State of Israel and violations of international law.

    Our Mission
The IAJLJ approaches specific issues on the Jewish and Israeli agenda from a legal perspective and is dedicated to the precepts of Judaism and the rule of law. Our statements of principle and the publications on our website are intended to set out our legal position on issues that we believe to be of major importance.

    Who We Are
The IAJLJ has an ECOSOC Special Consultative status as a non-governmental organization (NGO) at the United Nations, enabling it to participate in the deliberations of various UN bodies, and in the Council of Europe. We have representatives in about 30 countries and hundreds of members in Europe, North and South America, Australia and Israel. All seek to participate in accomplishing our goals.

    Other financial info

with regards to the estimation of services provided by volunteers:
All members are lawyers and jurists. Each hour they volunteer at the IAJLJ "is worth a great deal of money". For financial reasons, and since we are an NGO and due to the requirement of the registrar in Israel, we specify this number. It is based on an accurate tracking of hours each volunteer gives to the association.

The estimate cost may be considered very low due to the fact that some of the activity is conducted on a voluntary basis and within the position percentage, the employees are not dedicated to activities covered by the Register.

    Some of our Recent Activities
    • In 2011, the IAJLJ organized a video conference that enabled Israeli victims of rocket attacks, perpetrated by Hamas and other terrorist groups operating from the Gaza Strip, to testify before the UN Committee of Independent Experts. The IAJLJ’s contribution in this regard was clearly described in the committee’s final report.
    • Throughout 2011 and 2012, we engaged in various activities aimed at raising awareness of the dangers posed by Iran; in this context we also sent detailed letters to the President of the Security Council, the Secretary General of the UN and the US Secretary of State.
    • In 2012 and 2013, we sent letters to European leaders condemning anti-Semitic acts committed in France, Sweden, Hungary and other countries.
    • In 2012, we drafted two reports about the Israeli Supreme Court's rulings on the rights of Palestinians and the activities of Israeli law enforcement agencies in the territories. The reports were presented to a fact-finding commission established by the Human Rights Council in Geneva on the Rights of the Palestinians in the Occupied Territories.
    • In 2013, the IAJLJ, acting as amicus curiae, joined a petition filed by a group of rabbis, faith organizations and ethicists spanning the spectrum from Orthodox to Reform, against the joint decision of the Attorney General, State Prosecutor, Minister of Justice and Israeli police to refrain from prosecuting the two rabbis who wrote "Torat Hamelech ".
    • In 2014, we held, in association with the Herzog, Fox, Neeman Law Office, a seminar concerning Corporate Social Responsibilities, a relatively new and developing approach that relates to Human Rights from a "business prospective" and has direct ramifications on Israeli corporations.
    • UNRWA – over the past year, acting in conjunction with leading professors and public figures, the IAJLJ has been investigating UNRWA's mandate and how it is being misused in terms of its work, research and publications against Israel. Just last week, on May 19, 2014, the IAJLJ in association with its American member organization, the AAJLJ, held a side event at UN headquarters in NY focusing on Palestinian refugees, UNRWA's biased position and misuse of funds. The findings will be sent to relevant UN bodies and media sources.
    * In 2015 we held a legal seinar in Ausrtia re - the definition of Antisemitism and the application of the relevant rules there. this was a cooperaion with the Austrian Ministry of Justice.

    * In 2017 - the association held a follow up seminar in Vienna, in cooperation with a big lawfirm concerning the raising of Antisemitism in Europe including in the social media.
All year long the association attended the HRC's sessions in Geneva and provided the Council with papers and atatements. At the UN in NYC our representatives initiated talks with local lawyers concerning matters that are on our agenda.
*In 2018 - the association held an international conference in Rome on "Controversial Multiculturalism"
