Goals / Remit
ESIN represents 11 island federations situated in Åland, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Sweden. ESIN is reaching out to 450 000 islanders on 1500 small islands throughout Europe.
ESIN aims to acts at two levels.
Local level:
• strengthening islands cultural identity
• facilitating the circulation of information between members
• allowing comparison on how different countries cope with common issues
• sharing knowledge
• disseminating examples of good practice
European level:
• informing relevant EU institutions
• increasing their awareness and understanding of small islands and their issues
• seeking to influence EU policies and rules to ensure islands do not lose out in the Cohesion Policy implementation
• implementing the Smart Islands Declaration as a signatory to the Smart Islands initiative and declaration.Main EU files targeted
