The Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association   (JRAIA)

    EU Transparency Register

    50134607288-38 First registered on 29 Nov 2011

    Goals / Remit

The Japan Refrigeration and Air conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA) and its member companies represent the interests of producers and developers of air conditioning, refrigeration equipment, and heat pumps. The products have in common that they rely on refrigerants to transfer heat and cold.
They play an essential role in food preservation, retail, quality of life and work, and in enabling sometimes difficult industrial and digital processes under controlled circumstances.
JRAIA and its member companies have been present and active in Europe for several decades. We are committed to the Single Market, and to a fully sustainable future. That is why we have pro-actively and constructively contributed to phasing down use of refrigerants with a high global warming potential, and continue to do so. We are investing significant and increasing resources into low-GWP alternatives.
JRAIA and its representative office in Brussels (JROAME) participate in and contribute to EU level (...)

    Main EU files targeted

JRAIA aims to promote and improve production, distribution and utilization of air conditioners, heat pumps and refrigeration equipment and their applied products, as well as auxiliary devices and components, automatic controls and accessories, and thereby contribute globally to the steady development of RACHP industry and improvement in people's quality of life.
Europe takes leading role of environmental regulations in the world, so air conditioners are also in the scope of such advanced environmental regulations. In order to get timely regulatory information of EU and supply sufficient technical information of Japan, JROAME was established in Brussels.

    Complementary Information

Two staffs of JRAIA are working mainly for European regulations. One staff is working partially.
There are several committees or working groups in JRAIA dealing with European regulations.
    Steering Committee
    European AC regulation committee
    F-gas WG
ErP ENER Lot 10 Revision WG
ErP ENER Lot 1&2 Revision WG
ErP ENTR Lot 6/ENER Lot 21 WG
    ErP ENER Lot33 WG
    CEN/TC113 WG
    Environmental Planning Committee
    Interface Committee
Heat and Energy Recovery Ventilation Equipment Committee
Steering committee meets three times a year for 2 hours each, but other committee and WGs meet basically every 2-3 months for 4 hours for each. Around 10 members are in a committee or WG. This gives 3 times*2 hours*10members+6 times*10members*6 groups*4 hours=1500 man hour.
Traveling for meeting and the home work time probably double this. So, additionally one person equivalent is working for this issue.

JBCE: Most of major JRAIA member companies in Europe are member of JBCE. JBCE has air conditioning WG to discuss these issues. JRAIA representatives attend such meeting.

ICARHMA: ICARHMA is council of Refrigeration, air conditioning and heating industry associations of countries in the world. AHRI of the USA is secretary. JRAIA is one of key members. Current members are AHRI(USA), HRAI(Canada), EUROVENT and EPEE(Europe), ABRAVA(Brazil), CRAA(China), KRAIA(South Korea), AREMA(Australia), RAMA(India), ACAIRE(Colombia) and JRAIA

EUROVENT: Some of JRAIA members are also member of EUROVENT. As EUROVENT is the counter part of JRAIA in EU, so mutual collaborating relationship is provided in some extent.
