    Goals / Remit

    While respecting the autonomy and freedom of AIM members, the AIM undertakes to defend and promote at European and international levels the principles underlying mutual benefit funds that unite its members.

    The mutual benefit concept rests on six essential principles:
    • health and well-being;
    • solidarity;
    • autonomous management;
    • not-for-profit orientation;
    • responsibility;
    • social democracy.

    Objectives and missions
    AIM has the following objectives:
    • to disseminate in all countries the principles underlying mutual benefit funds in health insurance, providence, pension and in all other sectors of social protection;
    • to defend and represent the common interests of its member organisations;
    • to be the most influential international association in the mutual benefit sector;
    • to be a prime source of knowledge and technical know-how relating to mutual benefit protection, health insurance and related areas.

    In order to achieve these objectives, AIM’s principal missions and activities shall be:
    • to exchange information and compare experiences among member organisations and to organise international meetings;
    • to represent and defend common principles by means of adopted joint positions in dealings with the European and international institutions;
    • to promote collaboration by its member organisations in international cooperation projects founded on the principle of reciprocity, compatible with the principles of AIM and likely to further the development of a national economy, though without the intention of substituting its members and their actions.
