    Goals / Remit

    The European Sugar Refiners’ Association (ESRA) was founded in early 2011 to represent the interests of Full Time Sugar Refiners in the European Union, towards policy makers at all relevant levels, other industry stakeholders, and the media.

    The Association has the following objectives, enshrined in its Statutes:

    The principal objective of the association is to establish a constructive dialogue between European sugar refineries and decision-makers at European Union and national levels, as well as with the other parties involved in the development of the sugar industry, in particular by playing a proactive role in the development of the regulatory environment for sugar refining, by promoting an appropriate, consistent and efficient legal and regulatory framework in order to develop the internal market.
    It may carry out all actions relating directly or indirectly to its objective. It may in particular support and participate in any activity having a similar objective.

    The activities that the association intends to implement, in accordance with European and national regulations, in order to achieve its objectives, include in particular the following activities:

    a) providing a common basis for the representation of the common interests of the association’s members vis-à-vis the institutions of the European Union, other European organisations, national authorities and international organisations;

    b) contributing to the development and promulgation of policies resulting in an efficient and equitable regulatory and commercial environment;

    c) promoting cooperation between the association’s members with the aim of developing the refining market;

    d) providing members with up-to-date information on changes to the regulatory status of the cane sugar sector in Europe;

    e) defending and promoting the cane sugar refining industry’s products;

    f) maintaining relations with or joining other international associations or organisations, whenever this is appropriate for the accomplishment of its object;

    g) supporting raw sugar sourcing needs in each Member State.
