Goals / Remit
The objectives of the DSCC in the EU are:
• Securing protection for vulnerable deep‐sea ecosystems and ensuring sustainable deep-sea fisheries;
• Substantially reducing the greatest threats to life in the deep seas; and
• Safeguarding the long-term health, integrity, and resilience of deep-sea ecosystems.Main EU files targeted
The protection of the deep ocean through managing the damaging impacts of activities such as deep-sea fisheries and deep-sea mining is subject to multiple discussions at the European Parliament. Many of the EU’s actions such as the raw materials initiative, the Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, and the new EU Batteries Regulation are of close interest to the DSCC.

The DSCC consists of more than 100 organizations worldwide, including environmental NGOs, fishworkers organizations and law and policy institutes. We also work in close cooperation with major national and international players on high seas conservation. Most of our colleagues work within the parameters of their own organizations, which means that DSCC staff numbers are small.

The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.
1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
