Goals / Remit
According to the DSTF Rules of Procedure from 2018, its aim is to coordinate and foster the conservation and revival of native sturgeons (Acipenseridae) in the Danube River Basin and the adjacent Black Sea by the implementation of such Plans and Strategies as the Sturgeon Action Plan adopted under the Bern Convention in 2005, the Program Sturgeon 2020 or the ICPDR Sturgeon Strategy.
In order to fulfil this aim, the DSTF serves primarily the following purposes:
• to foster the implementation of “Sturgeon 2020”-Strategy, as published by the DSTF in 2013,
• to provide a platform for exchange of information and experience on sturgeon conservation in the Danube Basin;
• to facilitate cooperation between the key sturgeon conservation stakeholder groups as science, policy level and non-governmental organisations and to foster synergies with other organizations involved in Danube sturgeon conservation;
• to raise awareness of decision makers and the public as well as to build c (...)Main EU files targeted

The DSTF is a multi-stakeholder platform established as a Task Force under the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) aiming at the conservation of the critically endangered Danube sturgeon populations. It participates in and elaborates responses to public policy stakeholder consultations, organizes conferences and meetings and provides input to policy making. Its members all have links, professionally or otherwise, to activities relating to conservation of sturgeons in the Danube. They are scientific experts and/or have backgrounds in public administration or civil society organisations. The DSTF relies heavily on voluntary contributions from its members to the above activities and outputs. The numbers above reflect only the activities of DSTF directly in relation to the European Institutions. We estimate that the real contribution from the DSTF membership to the European policy objectives amounts to at least 3 additional full-time equivalents.

In 2019 the DSTF organised together with the University of Galati (RO) an international conference in Galati on sturgeon conservation in the Danube River and Black Sea basins.
