BIMCO – the practical voice of shipping
Facilitating trade is at the very heart of our business, and since 1905, we’ve helped our members keep world trade moving. We make it our business to help our members with theirs.
BIMCO members cover over 60% of the global fleet and consist of local, global, small, and large companies. We are an organisation and global shipping community of over 2,000 members in more than 130 countries.
From our offices in Houston, London, Copenhagen, Athens, Singapore, Shanghai and Brussels we aim to help build a resilient industry in a sustainable future whilst protecting world trade. We do this by finding practical solutions for our members to help them manage risk in a changing world.Main EU files targeted
All relevant initiatives which have potential bearing on the international shipping industry, including but not limited to maritime transport, environment, competition, etc. Recent examples are those files that relate to shipping under the EU fit for 55 package and the EU Green Deal in general. Very specific files are the Fuel EU Maritime, the EU ETS, the EU MV the Environmental Crime Directive and the EU ship recycling regulation. In addition, EU files that relate to safety, security and piracy and the wellbeing of seafarers will also be on the focus of BIMCO (eg port state control directive) as well as digitalisation. More in general, apart from those specific files, trade is a topic inherently linked to the very nature of the shipping industry. Files can be very divers and important, showcased by eg the export of grain from Ukraine by the international shipping industry.

Communication activities
Possible activities are meetings with EU legislators in which the focus will be on the practical aspects of shipping and the way shipping works. The BIMCO is the world largest shipping association, representing EU and other ship owners directly. BIMCO members cover over 60% of the global fleet and consist of local, global, small, and large companies, representing all fleet types. We are an organisation and global shipping community of around 2,000 members in more than 130 countries. In addition, BIMCO membership also contains ship management companies, brokers and P&I clubs allowing the association to provide an holistic overview on the world of shipping and the way it works.
Existing BIMCO publications (see website) could be relevant during those meetings.Other activities

The list below covers meetings with Commissioners/Cabinet members/Directors-general (high-level) Commission meetings published December 2014 to December 2024, and the meetings of Commissioners/Cabinet members/Directors-general and officials holding "management functions" in the Commission published since 1 January 2025. Other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may well have taken place, but the Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. All information below comes from the Commission and not from the registrant.
1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
