Goals / Remit
Autism-Europe’s overarching statutory mission is to improve the lives of autistic people by promoting their rights. Nowadays, Autism-Europe ensures effective liaison between nearly 90 member associations of parents of persons with autism in 40 European countries, governments and European and international institutions.
Autism-Europe plays a key role in raising public awareness, and in influencing the European decision-makers on all issues relating to autism, including the promotion of the rights of autistic people and other disabilities involving complex dependency needs. Autism-Europe has established a structured dialogue with the European Institutions, AE enjoys NGO participative status with the Council of Europe and is also active towards the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Autism-Europe is a founding member of several international umbrella NGOs active in disability and social protection such as the European Disability Forum (EDF) and the Platform of European Social NGOs.Main EU files targeted
AE is active on a range of policies and legislation having an impact on the quality of life of autistic people, it notably includes supporting the full implementation of the EU Strategy for the rights of persons with disabilities 2021-2030, the European Pillar of Social Rights and the Child guarantee.

AE works with its members to:
Advocate for the rights of autistic people before the European institutions;
Monitor European laws and policies;
Promote appropriate care, education, training and employment, living support, adapted medical and social services, professional diagnosis, early intervention, protection from discrimination and better social inclusion to foster the well-being of people on the autism spectrum;
Promote the exchange of information, good practices and experience in the field of autism;
Promote awareness of autism.
We hold a triannual international congress to share the latest research and best practices regarding areas such as support, social inclusion and services provision.
We publish our LINK magazine, newsletters, research reports, position papers and toolkits to advocate for the rights of autistic people.
Each year, we collaborate with our members in conducting campaigns to raise awareness about autism on World Autism Awareness Day (April 2).Other activities
