    Goals / Remit

The “Association pour le Droit à l’Initiative Economique” (Adie) is a French non-profit organization, the first micro-credit institution in France.
Inspired by the Grameen bank founded by Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh, the association was created in 1989 by Maria Nowak and was recognized in 2005 by the French public authorities as a “useful national Institution”.
Nowadays, Adie is headed by Catherine Barbaroux.

We use microfinance to provide wide access to credit, more precisely to the people and communities who are financially excluded and/or under-privileged people. We allow individuals who are excluded from the labor market to create their own profitable jobs and regain independence and dignity. Meaning that we contribute to the improvement of the institutional environment of microcredit and entrepreneurship. By supporting the micro-entrepreneurs on a long-term basis we ensure the sustainability of their business.

Adie created a dynamic network outreach in France and overseas territories with 119 branches and 360 offices. 500 people are currently employed by Adie and 1285 volunteers mobilized.
