Through its actions, Friends Europe mobilises political and institutional decision-makers, MPs, civil society organizations as well as the private sector and the media, to increase investments of the international community in global health and in the fight against the AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, notably through the Global Fund, with the objective to put an end to three of the most devastating pandemics affecting developing countries.

    Main EU files targeted

The organisation is interested in all policies and legislative proposals related to global health among which pandemic preparedness, one health, infectious diseases and global health architecture. We are also interested more generally in cooperation, aid and global partnerships.

For example, we are currently following the Global Health Strategy process initiated by the Commission, as well as the related discussions on One Health.

We are also following the current Multi-annual Financial Framework revision process, specifically on Heading 6 related to the external action of the EU, as well as the budget allocations within NDCI.

Finally we are also interested in the ongoing negotiations of the Pandemic Treaty that the EU is leading on behalf of Team Europe.

    Communication activities

As part of our activities regarding these areas of interest, we organise events with MEPs and Commission representatives (e.g. in March 2023, an event at the EP with MEPs, DG INTPA, as well as researchers, civil society representatives on tuberculosis and EU investments in this field).

We also participate in or initiate advocacy campaigns (e.g. currently with 24 NGOs we are calling on an increase of funding for the MFF heading 6 - https://t.co/3T3xh9z1k8)

We also publish policy briefings on issues related to global health.

    Meetings

    1 meetings found. Download meetings

The list below only covers meetings held since November 2014 with commissioners, their cabinet members or directors-general at the European Commission; other lobby meetings with lower-level staff may have taken place, but the European Commission doesn't proactively publish information about these meetings. For more information about which commissioner is responsible for which portfolio, check out this link: https://commissioners.ec.europa.eu/index_en All information below comes from European Commission web pages.

1 July 2024: We have noted that some meetings are appearing in duplicate, ie. some meetings seem to be listed twice. This seems to be because the Commission changes some element of a meeting data after the meeting has first been listed, which causes LobbyFacts to register it as a new meeting. We are investigating further.
