Albemarle Corporation, headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a premier specialty chemicals company with leading positions in attractive end markets around the world. With a broad customer reach and diverse end markets, Albemarle develops, manufactures and markets technologically advanced and high value added products, including lithium and lithium compounds, bromine and derivatives, catalysts and surface treatment chemistries, used in a wide range of applications. Albemarle Europe SPRL is located in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, and serves as our European headquarters.

We follow EU initiatives, policies and legislation mainly in the field of environmental and chemical management legislation. To a very limited extend we also follow energy and trade related initiatives. This includes the REACH regulation and its processes, the RoHS directive, the EU Emission Trading System, the EU Ecolable, Circular Economy, nano materials, BREF recasts under the Industrial Emissions Directive (specifically Large Combustion Plants and Waste Incineration BREF), the Sulphur directive (limitting sulphur emissions from commercial shipping) as well as the GreenGoods Initiative.

Over the past two years we have also participated (as Albemarle or as part of a trade association) in various public consultations or provided comments on EU studies in the fields of REACH, RoHS, the EU Ecolabel and on the implementation of the Minamata Convention.
