Promote the importance of data as the competitive fabric of our markets. Rather than exhaust from transactions, data is now the primary source of value and basis for innovation.

Exchanges have earned themselves a bad reputation for abusing their market position and pricing power. They have also had to endure anticompetitive practices and provide a showroom for prices used for internalisation all at the expense of investors. Price formation and displayed liquidity is not properly recognised or rewarded.

The EU27 has an opportunity to establish a new market structure that puts investors first, promotes competition, fairness and innovation. Unfortunately, our industry is too short-sighted and consumed with self-interests to do so without leadership from policymakers. Hard work ahead!
