Goals / Remit
The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation (ALTER-EU) is a coalition of over 200 civil society groups concerned with the increasing influence exerted by corporate lobbyists on the political agenda in Europe. This can result in the loss of democracy in EU decision-making and the postponement, weakening, or rejection of urgently needed progress on social, environmental and consumer-protection reforms.
ALTER-EU is committed to transparency about EU interest representation. ALTER-EU believes that this register fails basic transparency standards and that it does not provide EU lobbying transparency.Main EU files targeted
The main objective of the Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation in the EU is to promote transparency of the EU decision-making process and effective ethics regulations for EU decision-makers.

- Commission Work Programmes for 2022 and 2023, including the establishment of a mandatory transparency register for interest representatives

We very much regret that non-commercial organisations no longer need to provide a lobby budget and we hope this changes very soon.
ALTER-EU's 2022 lobby expenses amounted to €8121. This is explained below.
Following the guidelines of the EU Civil Society Contact Group and ALTER-EU, we have calculated that in 2022 ALTER-EU directly spent €0 on activities carried out with the objective of influencing the policy formulation and decision-making processes of the European institutions.
The organisations represented in the steering committee contributed relevant in-kind staff time to ALTER-EU for activities covered by the EU Transparency Register:

- LobbyControl €3000
- Friends of the Earth Europe €2500
Total in-kind lobbying contributions: €8121. These figures are not part of ALTER-EU's financial budget.
