Goals / Remit
ALLAI's mission is to drive and foster responsible development, deployment and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Responsible AI is AI that is lawful, ethical and socio-technically robust, in line with European social values, laws, human rights and democracy. Building on the work of the HLEG AI, ALLAI informs (inter)national policy makers on AI ethics, laws and policy strategies. ALLAI aims to increase knowledge and awareness of the benefits and challenges of AI with all stakeholders and foster collaboration between them. ALLAI helps public and private organizations implement Responsible AI into their operations, by translating the Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI into practice. ALLAI collaborates in research consortia and translates AI research results into policies, practices and viable AI products and services that benefit society. ALLAI brings together broad expertise (AI, data science, law, ethics, humanities, social sciences, economics, EU and global policymaking).

ALLAI is an initiative of Catelijne Muller, Virginia Dignum and Aimee van Wynsberghe, the three Dutch members of the EU High Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence, where they were co-rapporteurs of Deliverables 1, 2 and 3.

- Catelijne Muller is AI rapporteur of the European Economic and Social Committee where she wrote the Opinion on AI & Society in 2017 (INT/806) as well as the Opinion on the Commission Whitepaper on AI (INT/894).
