ČAK je největší samosprávnou organizací v České republice. Byla založena § 40 zákona č. 85/1996 Sb. o advokacii a to ve znění pozdějších předpisů. ČAK je samosprávnou stavovskou organizací všech advokátů a vykonává veřejnou správu na úseku advokacie. Jako taková chrání a garantuje kvalitu právních služeb poskytovaných advokáty.
