    Goals / Remit

Wista Romania, a professional organization contributes to shaping strategies to motivate women who want to develop their careers in the maritime field, either on or off-shore. We support the academic environment, which has the opportunity to form the new generations in accordance with such strategies, depending on the feedback constantly received from the national and international business environment.

    Main EU files targeted

Positive change in reducing the maritime gender gap requires a holistic approach and involving all stakeholders: maritime business, employees, intergovernmental organizations, institutions, administrations, union, academia and research, NGOs, communities, etc.
Insights collected by Wista Romania from the industry, academia and other institutional maritime stakeholders have the purpose to contribute to the European Union (EU), the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) joint programs for the motivation and empowerment of women in maritime.Wista Romania aims to address the European Commissioner for Equality, Ms Helena Dalli in supporting the access and career development of all women in the maritime sector. Our goal is to have a specific gender equality strategy in order for women to have equal opportunities, treatment and pay in all the maritime's industry sectors. Based on our observations in mass media and academic research, there is no evident communication of joint activities developed so far by inter-governmental agencies of the United Nations (IMO and ILO) and the European Commission, Commission of Equality and Commission of Transports for tackling sensitive issues of women empowerment in maritime.
Through the academic focus group organised by WISTA Romania and institutional partners on November, 20, 2020, we aim to collect suggestions from various citizens and maritime stakeholders, including professionals and employees, for activities necessary for maritime women empowerment. Such activities are expected to be developed by the European Commission, through the kind assistance and involvement of the Commission of Equality, in a joint effort with inter-governmental agencies. After the academic focus group, we urge the Commission of Equality to take into consideration the opinions and voices of the citizens and institutions we represent, and assist us in submitting a proposal with suggestions, entitled “Joint EU-IMO-ILO Agenda of Change for Women Empowerment in Maritime”.
