    Goals / Remit

    The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is a UK- based non-profit organisation working internationally to protect the environment and defend human rights. EJF believes environmental security is a human right.

    EJF strives to:
    Protect the natural environment and the people and wildlife that depend upon it by linking environmental security, human rights and social need;
    Create and implement solutions where they are needed most – training local people and communities who are directly affected to investigate, expose and combat environmental degradation and associated human rights abuses;
    Provide training in the latest video technologies, research and advocacy skills to document both the problems and solutions, working through the media to create public and political platforms for constructive change;
    Raise international awareness of the issues our partners are working locally to resolve.

    EJF believes that protecting the environment is not just about quality of life, it is a question of life and death for the world’s poorest people. We believe that environmental security is a human right.
    For millions of people around the world, the result of a degraded environment is hunger, brutal poverty and vulnerability.

    Our international campaigns tackle grassroots issues that are ‘off the radar’, working in remote and difficult locations and in post-conflict areas where environmental issues and associated human rights problems are neglected. EJF's team documents the issues and creates compelling international campaigns that target opinion formers and decision makers around the globe. EJF provides film and advocacy training to local organisations and activists in the global south, enabling them to document, expose and create long term solutions to environmental problems, generate local support and create a living legacy.

    Our international and national campaigns include eradicating illegal unreported, unregulated fishing in West Africa, exposing human rights abuses in the cotton industry and banning harmful pesticides, calling for better protection and legal status for climate refugees, promoting more environmentally sustainable and socially equitable shrimp production and protecting the UK's Bees and other important pollinators from harmful pesticides.
